From the Therapy Cabinet — Part Two: The Craft Basket
A basket of ribbons, stickers, stamps, and paper may not look like therapy.
Yet these simple materials often become bridges between thoughts and feelings, between silence and expression, between where we are and where we are learning to be.
Sometimes, choosing a colour, arranging a collage, or creating something with our hands feels safer than trying to find the right words.
The process invites curiosity rather than perfection, allowing emotions, memories, and experiences to emerge at their own pace.
Whether with children, adolescents, or adults, these materials offer another way of communicating; one that reminds us there is no single "right" way to express what we carry within us.
In therapy, we do not create to make something beautiful.
We create to understand ourselves a little better.
To give shape to what feels difficult to say.
To make space for thoughts and feelings that deserve to be seen.
Sometimes, that is where healing begins.
If you were to open this basket, what would you reach for first?
