Anxiety is a word we hear almost every day.

It has become part of everyday language and pop psychology, often used to describe any form of stress, worry, or discomfort. While this has helped make conversations about mental health more common, it has also blurred the true meaning of anxiety and what it really is.

The reality is that anxiety is not, in itself, the enemy. It is a natural and essential response that helps protect us, keeps us alert, and prepares us to face challenges. However, when anxiety becomes overwhelming, persistent, or begins to interfere with our daily lives, it can have a significant impact on our wellbeing.

I was truly honoured to be invited by Karl Vella Foundation - KVF to join Senior Manager Mark Calleja on Indigo to discuss the purpose of anxiety, how it differs from everyday stress, and when it becomes something that deserves our attention.

A heartfelt thank you to the Karl Vella Foundation and the Indigo team for creating a space where conversations like these can take place. My hope is that discussions such as this encourage us to move beyond labels, better understand what anxiety truly is, and recognise when it may be time to seek support.
